An X-Wing makes a strafing run on an Imperial Star Destroyer in this personal project, built end to end as a full pipeline piece.
Assets: Both the X-Wing and the Star Destroyer were modeled in Maya, textured in Substance Painter, and finished with touch-ups in Photoshop. I focused on weathered, battle-worn surfaces on the fighter and dense panel detail across the Destroyer's hull so both hold up in close-up.
Rigging & Animation: I rigged both ships in Maya. The X-Wing has controls for its S-foils and flight movement, and the Star Destroyer is rigged for its slower, heavier motion. I then animated the attack run in Maya, keeping the fighter's banking and weaving agile against the capital ship's weight.
FX: The laser fire, impact sparks, and destruction effects were created in Houdini, using techniques from Andrew Sutherland's Star Wars X-Wing Pyro and Destruction FX in Houdini course. It was a great reference for building believable pyro and debris that fit the scale of the shot.
Comp & Edit: After rendering out of Houdini, I composited everything in Nuke, then assembled the final reel in Adobe Premiere.
